WASHINGTON DC — The House of Representatives approved a bill Thursday that bans flying the Confederate Flag on flagpoles at cemeterries maintained by Veterans Administration. It passed by a vote of 265-159. The bill was sponsored by California Representative Jared Huffman.

Small Confederate flags can still be placed on grave sites.

The VA maintains 134 National Cemeteries in 40 states and Puerto Rico, as well as 33 Soldier’s lots and monument sites. It does not oversee the country’s most famous cemetery. Arlington National Cemetery is maintained by the Department of the Army.
