BUTLER TOWNSHIP — A man from Schuylkill County was shot by Secret Service officers near the White House Friday afternoon.

Officials say Jesse Olivieri of Butler Township near Ashland was shot near a security checkpoint close to the White House after he apparently brandished a weapon. Olivieri apparently refused to drop the gun and was shot.

President Barack Obama was not at the White House at the time of the incident. Vice President Joe Biden was secured in the White House complex when it happened.

The suspect was shot in the abdomen and taken into custody, according to two sources familiar with the incident. A witness told investigators they saw the suspect approaching officers with a gun in his hand, a law enforcement official told CNN.
