Northeastern School District Supt. Shawn Minnich is suspended of duties
A special meeting – to formally suspend Supt. Shawn Minnich – will be held at Northeastern School District’s Administrative Center’s board room June 2.
Minnich, 44, was arrested December 4 at his estranged wife’s East Manchester Township home. He was arraigned on December 5, and then released after posting $15,000 bail on December 7.
Northeastern Regional Police initially charged Minnich with burglary, criminal trespass, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, criminal mischief and harassment. Kathy Minnich is a social worker at Northeastern High School.
On February 18, the Pennsylvania Department of Education filed for immediate suspension of Minnich’s teaching certificate, which impairs his eligibility to be employed by the school district. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Professional Standards and Practices Commission entered an order on May 26, calling for the immediate suspension of Minnich’s certificates.
District school board directors on Thursday plan to appoint an acting superintendent.
Northeastern School District released a statement on its website:
The Northeastern School Board acknowledges that the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Professional Standards and Practices Commission entered an order on May 26, 2016 concerning the immediate suspension of the certificates of Dr. Shawn Minnich. Dr. Minnich is no longer performing any duties as superintendent for the school district. The School Board has scheduled a special meeting on June 2nd at 6:30 p.m. in the Administrative Center’s Board Room to formally suspend Dr. Minnich and appoint an acting superintendent. The district remains committed to providing a quality education and all year end activities will proceed as scheduled.
