SAN FRANCISCO– As if protestors jumping the barricade at his rally in Oakland, California, wasn’t exciting enough, Bernie Sanders added to the adrenaline rush Monday by sneaking the last half of the Golden State Warriors’ 96-88 comeback victory into his schedule.

The Democratic presidential candidate cheered from the stands as the Warriors beat the Oklahoma City Thunder to advance to the NBA Finals. Sanders attended the thrilling Game 7 with actor and surrogate Danny Glover. The two had seats in section 108, row 15 of the Oracle Arena.

Sanders’ communications director says that the tickets were purchased “privately at face value,” but declined to say how much they cost.

The senator was mobbed as he entered and exited the arena, and his Secret Service detail tried in vain to keep fans from crowding him. There were lots of selfie requests and people snapping pictures as he made his way to his seat. The Vermont senator arrived during halftime, which helped minimize disruption, though not by much.

Despite the sea of yellow shirts that the crowd was wearing, emblazoned with the Warrior’s playoff slogan “Strength in Numbers,” Sanders kept his blue button-down on, sans tie and rolled at the sleeves. Glover, on the other hand, pulled on the bright shirt before the two entered the arena.

Sanders was on his feet clapping and smiling throughout the game. As a basketball fan (he’s known to shoot hoops in school gyms as he waits for rallies to start or after they end), he seemed to thoroughly enjoy himself.

He spoke briefly with reporters before he left the arena. Sanders said it was great to see the Warriors come back to reach the NBA Finals after being down three games to one in the Western Conference Finals.

“They turned it around, I think that is what our campaign is going to do as well; a very good omen for our campaign.”

When asked if his presence helped, Sanders didn’t miss a beat.

“Absolutely! No question about it. They were losing, then in the third quarter they did fantastically well. What other explanation is there?” he said as he walked through the crowded underbelly of the arena and into his motorcade.
