Based on the weather, beginning on or about June 13, 2016, the Lower Paxton Township Sewer Authority will be conducting a major project on Jonestown Road between S. Arlene Street and Lopax Road.  The project is being scheduled during the summer months to avoid impacting school related matters at Paxtonia Elementary School.  The project is multi-phased and will involve a few short detours of Jonestown Road traffic and Nyes Road traffic during the different phases.  Work will be done between S. Arlene Street and Nyes Road first.  When that is completed or nearly so, work will be done on the eastern portion of the project.  While inconvenient, detours will be relatively short.  All detours will be marked with posted signs to indicate the detour routes.  Motorists are asked to be patient and allow for a few additional minutes of travel time if they need to drive through this area during the summer months.  The project should be completed by mid-August.

Also, in preparation of the widening of I-83, work on several Lower Paxton Township roadways is scheduled to begin on June 13, 2016.  Elmerton Ave. will be closed on or about that date and is not scheduled to reopen until mid-November.  This closure is necessary to construct a completely new bridge over I-83.  Traffic will not be able to travel through on Elmerton Ave.  Portions of Elmerton Ave. will be totally closed and other portions will only be open for residents to come and go from their homes.  There will be a posted detour around Elmerton Ave.  The detour must include only state routes.  Therefore, the detour will be Progress Ave. at the western terminus of the work zone, north to Linglestown Rd.  Linglestown Rd. east to Colonial Rd., and then south on Colonial Rd. to the eastern terminus of the project area.  From east to west, the route would be reversed.

Traffic will also be impacted on Jonestown Rd. and Union Deposit Rd. near I-83 as work crews will begin rerouting entrance and exit ramps and preparing for tie-ins and bridge work at both Jonestown Rd. and Union Deposit Rd.  There will be temporary traffic signals in place.  In an effort to minimize impact on the motoring public, most of the work done in these locations is scheduled to be done at night.

As with all outdoor construction and highway work, progress is dependent upon weather and safe working conditions.  Therefore, the timeframe for this road work is tentative.  These beginning stages of this project are tentatively scheduled to be completed before the holiday season beginning in mid-November.  Due to the necessary work being done in these construction areas, motorists are asked to be patient and allow for a few additional minutes of travel time if they need to drive through this area during the scheduled construction projects.
