CLAY TWP., Pa.– Police are advising residents of a phone scam that may be affecting the area.

A Clay Township resident told police she received a phone call on June 4 from a man with an accent saying that her grandson was in an accident and arrested in Connecticut. The man demanded money for the grandson’s bail. The resident knew the alert was fraudulent and didn’t exchange money.

Another scam call occurred in Penn Township, as a resident received an automated message stating that the he owed the IRS money and legal action was going to be taken. However, this call was also fraudulent.

Northern Lancaster County Regional Police Department reminds residents to be aware of this type of scam and not provide any financial or personal identifiers to such callers. Anyone with further information is requested to contact the NLCRPD at 717-733-0965.
