One woman injured after accidental shooting in Franklin County

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Pa- State police in Chambersburg are investigating an accidental shooting after a woman was shot in the shoulder by a stray bullet last month.

Police say the shooting happened on May 28th between 6:30 – 7:00 p.m. along the 5000 block of Spruce Road in South Mountain, Pa.

Jessica Hockenberry, 24, was sitting next to a swimming pool watching two young children swim when she was shot in the right shoulder.

At the time Hockenberry told police she believed she was shot by a stay bullet that was being fired in a southern direction from an unknown location that was north of where she was sitting.

Hockenberry was transported by  personal vehicle to Waynesboro Hospital, then driven by an ambulance to Hershey Medical Center.  She was treated for non-life threatening injuries police said.

Police do not know the type gun was used in this shooting.

Anyone with any information regarding the above incident is asked to call PSP Chambersburg at 717-264-5161.

PSP would like to remind people who partake in shooting activities to do so safely. Please be aware of your surroundings and make sure you know what is beyond the target you are shooting at.  Shooters are responsible for their rounds and where they go and impact.

Shooters can be charged with recklessly endangering up to involuntary manslaughter should one of their rounds injure or kill somebody.

Also be aware that certain municipalities may have ordinances in place that can restrict or forbid gun usage for target shooting or hunting
