LEBANON, Pa. – An undisclosed amount cash accidentally spilled from an armored truck and was scooped up by passersby. It happened at 2:45 p.m. Thursday afternoon in the parking lot of the Weis Market on the 800 block of S. 12th Street in Lebanon.
Police who responded to the scene met with the driver of a Brinks armored vehicle that was transporting the money. The driver explained that a rear door opened allowing the money to spill from the truck as he was leaving the parking lot. Police were able to recover some money and returned it to the driver.
Police are reviewing video from surveillance cameras in the area in an attempt to identify the people that found and kept the money. According to the law, a person who comes into control of property of another that he knows to have been lost or mislaid, must take reasonable measures to restore the property to the person entitled to have it.
Anyone who recovered any of the money money is encouraged to turn it in at the Lebanon City Police Department which is open 24 hours a day. Charges may be avoided by returning the money to the police.
