NEWBERRY TOWNSHIP, YORK COUNTY, Pa. -- A proposed warehouse project for Newberry Township, York county has some homeowners saying, "not in my backyard."
The development has many neighbors expressing feelings of hopelessness.
A planning meeting Monday night in Newberry Township will discuss the construction of a warehouse for a company called Goodman Logistics. Taxpayers don't always have time to go to those meetings, but a few residents told me their neighbors need to pay attention to this one.
Donna Paradis moved to Newberry Township to get away from it all. The only noise heard on most days comes from nature. "Kind of independent too, away from things, just very relaxing, very nice," Paradis said.
Some Newberry Township homeowners say a proposed warehouse for the York County community could disturb their peace and quiet.
"It's all being hurt by so-called progress," Paradis said.
Many residents believe there's nothing they can do to stop it.
"It's frustrating about a lot of things, whether you're talking about building a building or whether you're talking about politics," Paradis said.
The project near the I-83 Lewisberry exit, near Summit Restaurant could end up practically in Paradis' backyard. She isn't just concerned about her own house, but also the critters and other creatures which call this area, home.
We have lots of wildlife here, from squirrels to chipmunks, to deer, to bear once in a while. They say there's coyotes," Paradis said.
Increased truck traffic is another concern for neighbors of the wetlands. A few say it may be time for them to make some noise of their own.
"The more people that complain, and the more people that show their views, and tell their views, it's happened that it's helped elsewhere, so, it can't hurt," Paradis said.
FOX 43 News reached out to a few officials with the township, but didn't hear back. The planning commission meeting is at 7 o'clock Monday night at the township building and it's open to the public.
