DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. – Jason R. Tyner, 36 of Dauphin Borough, was sentenced on Wednesday to three and half years to seven years in state prison for a host of crimes, including stealing from his own mother, that were fueled by his heroin addiction.
On February 20, 2015, Tyner stole jewelry valued at $2700 from his mother to buy heroin. In August of 2015, Tyner burglarized his aunt’s home and stole two handguns and jewelry.
Tyner then sold the handguns in Harrisburg for heroin. Both guns were recovered by the Harrisburg police. The first was located in bushes in the 600 block of Schuylkill Street and the second was discovered on a 17 year old kid who was arrested for selling heroin.
In November of 2015 Tyner then stole his mom’s debit card and withdrew $720. His spree finally ended in December of 2015 after he robbed the MK Extra Fuel Stop in Dauphin by entering with a mask and demanding cash. Tyner was able to grab $150 from the register before fleeing.
Tyner pleaded guilty to the charges on Wednesday June 8th and the Commonwealth refused to offer a plea agreement. Senior Deputy District Attorney Stephen R. Zawisky prosecuted the case.
“This was yet another example of how heroin addiction landed a man in state prison. Mr. Tyner stole from his own family and then got more and more desperate, even robbing the local store he frequented. His aunt will never get her sentimental jewelry back and you cannot put a price tag on that. The guns he sold are the type we see being used in drug related murders. Mr. Tyner did all of this for one thing – to get high.”
