CARLISLE, Pa. -- The shooting death of a man in front of 20 eyewitnesses at an American Legion hall remains a mystery in Carlisle.

Police continue to interview witnesses with the hope of finding a clue to solve this case.

Police call it an assassination. The shooting happened about two weeks ago, just before 1 am on an early Saturday morning at an American Legion hall in Carlisle.

Not much has changed at American Legion Post 826 since an armed person opened fire on a crowd of 20 people, presumably targeting one.

The case remains unsolved.

Carlisle resident James Washington said "I'm a legionnaire at this post, as a matter of fact I'm a past commander at this post, and we're deeply concerned and we know the police department is doing its best."

Carlisle interim police chief Lt. Steve Latshaw said "it's an open investigation. Obviously, our detectives are working very hard. They're in here constantly, they're talking to, there are a lot of witnesses to interview."

Police say 30-year-old Daniel "DJ" Harris Jr. was sitting at a table when an unknown gunman struck him down.

A suspect hasn't been identified, but surveillance video does show a person of interest.

"This was not a random act. Mr. Harris was the target, and this person came in and killed him," Lt. Latshaw said.

Washington is a lifelong Carlisle resident and executive director at the non-profit organization Hope Station. His hope for the community is that a witness steps forward.

"You don't have to say you're squealing on somebody, but if you seen something that was really in your heart, you say this is in your community, you want to do something for your community , then get out there and do it," Washington said.

"We need to get the information. We would like to solve this crime as much as the community would like us to solve this crime," Lt. Latshaw said.

"We will do whatever we can do to make sure there's an arrest made in this case," Lt. Latshaw added.

Carlisle police ask for the community's help in solving the case. Anyone with information may contact the police with an anonymous tip at 717-240-6660.

"We have received tips, plenty of tips, from folks here in Carlisle and around the area that have been very helpful," Lt. Latshaw said.
