GETTYSBURG, Pa.- WWII veterans and survivors of the USS Franklin attack in March of 1945 are together for their annual reunion. This year they are holding it in Gettysburg.

When the USS Franklin CV-13 was attacked by Japanese forces more than 800 men died and more than 250 were injured. The survivors managed to get the ship to shore. It happened more than 70 years ago.

"It’s not something you talk about so this becomes the occasion where you share something with others who were a part of it," said  veteran David Baruch.

"We lost a lot of friends. I lost a lot of friends," said  survivor Harold E. Rausch.

Family members of people who did not survive the attack are even attending the reunion. So are daughters, sons and widows. They will tour the battlefields, even go on a ghost tour and visit the museum.

Next year's event will be held in Boston.
