LEBANON COUNTY, Pa. – A Pennsylvania State Police corporal escaped with minor when a dump truck slammed into his stopped cruiser. The incident happened at 12:23 p.m. Monday on Interstate 81 at northbound Mile Marker 95.2 in Bethel Township, Lebanon County. That area of roadway had several signs indicating reduced speed and lane closures prior to the single lane construction zone.

The trooper in a marked Ford Interceptor with its emergency lights activated was stopped on the east berm of the road conducting a traffic stop on a 2016 KIA with Connecticut registration.

A dump truck traveling north on I-81 in the right lane suddenly veered from its lane of travel  onto the east berm and struck the front left front of State Police car. The force of the impact broke the front left wheel of the cruiser causing the wheel to hit the rear of the KIA.

The unidentified trooper suffered a minor injury and was treated at Hershey Medical Center and released. The two people in the KIA also suffered minor injuries.  The driver of the dump truck identified as Rodney Wallace, 59, of Pine Grove was not injured.

The investigation continues, but Wallace could be cited for violation of Pennsylvania’s “Move Over Law” when approaching emergency vehicles.
