Northern York Police Officer receives commendation

On Tuesday June 21, 2016 the Northern York County Regional Police Board of Commissioners recognized Officer Erika Eiker by presenting her with a Chief’s Commendation for her actions during a traffic stop subsequent to a robbery that occurred on May 1, 2016 in Manchester Township. The presentation took place at the regularly scheduled meeting of the Commission.
Officer Erika Eiker received the Chief’s Commendation. The Chief’s Commendation is the Department’s third highest award. The Chief’s Commendation recognizes performance which clearly surpasses the normal requirements of one’s position.
Information from the original news release is as follows:
On 05.01.2016 at 1056 hours the Northern York County Regional Police Department investigated a robbery of a subject outside of the Motel 6 located at 323 Arsenal Road in Manchester Township.
The 20 year old male victim from Mechanicsburg reported that he had been at the hotel the night before with acquaintances.
The victim, two males, and a female exited the motel room and entered into a black VW sedan. The female was the operator. The victim was seated in the backseat with a juvenile male and the other male was the front seat passenger. While still in the lot of the motel, the juvenile began punching the victim about the head and face. The juvenile then began to choke the victim and demanded that he give him money. The juvenile then reached into the pocket of the victim and took approximately $600.00 in cash. The juvenile gave the money to the male in the front seat. The victim was then allowed out of the car and the vehicle drove off. There was no weapon used in this incident.
The victim sustained facial injuries during the incident.
A Northern York County Regional Police Officer intercepted the vehicle as it was fleeing northbound on I-83. Northern York County Regional Police Officers stopped the vehicle on I-83 in Newberry Township. The three occupants were taken into custody without incident. NYCRPD Officers were assisted by the Newberry Township Police.
Mercedes Cannaday, age 18 of Mechanicsburg, was found to be the female driver.
Matthew Gorbea, age 21 of Mechanicsburg, was found to be the front seat passenger.
The backseat passenger was found to be a 16 year old male from Mechanicsburg.
Cannaday and Gorbea were taken to Central Booking and arraigned on the following charges;
• Robbery
• Criminal Conspiracy to Commit Robbery
• Theft by Unlawful Taking
• Receiving Stolen Property
• Simple Assault
Gorbea also faces an additional charge of providing false identification to law enforcement.
The 16 year old was released to Cumberland County Juvenile Probation. He will be charged with the same offenses as above through the York County Juvenile Court System.
