YORK COUNTY, Pa. – Fire destroys an antique truck stored in a detached garage in southern York County. The fire broke out at 1:46 p.m. in the 10000 block of Park View Drive near Swamp road in North Hopewell Township.

The owner was in his garage trying to start the vehicle when he saw flames erupting from the truck. He attempted to put out the fire with an extinguisher, but realizing the situation was out of control called 911.

The first firefighters on the scene reported heavy smoke and flames from the structure.  Tanker trucks were called in to help battle the fire. It was under control in less than half an hour. There were no reported injuries.

The fire chief says the saving grace was the garage’s ceiling was made of plywood which prevented heat from building up. Otherwise the garage would have been a total loss. Damage to the garage due to smoke and water is estimated at between $10,000 and $15,000. There was no estimate on the truck.
