HAZY, HOT & HUMID:
A Strong ridge in place keeps hot and humid conditions around. We are situated on the northern edge of the ridge, which will allow weak waves to track through Thursday and Friday. They will trigger a few afternoon thunderstorms on Thursday and more widespread showers and thunderstorms Friday. Highs are expected to climb into the lower 90s. The heat index will run in the middle and upper 90s. This means it will feel much hotter because of the higher humidity.
Pop up storms Thursday do not bring relief to the heat and humidity. In fact, temperatures are hotter Friday, warming into the lower to middle 90s. Include the humidity, and heat indices will run close to 100 degrees! More storms are possible Friday with a weak front crossing the area. Some of the storms are expected to be strong to severe.
HEAT SAFETY TIPS:
Heat related incidents go way up when the mercury and humidity climb. Follow safety guidelines to avoid heat exhaustion or heat stroke. Stay hydrated and drink plenty of water. Avoid being outside during the hottest part of the day, which is during the afternoon. If you have to work outdoors, be sure to take frequent breaks in the shade, wear light colored clothing and limit exertion. Also, keep an eye on the elderly and small children. Do not forget the pets!!
RELIEF OVER THE WEEKEND:
A second, and more potent front slides through Saturday. A few thunderstorms are possible again. It’s another hot day, with temperatures expected to hit 90 once again. Humidity begins to lower late Saturday into Sunday as drier air spills in. Temperatures fall back to more seasonable averages in the middle 80s for the second half of the weekend.
NEXT WEEK:
A weak trough is replaced with another strengthen ridge of high pressure. We begin the week still fairly comfortable, and highs in the middle and upper 80s. We are flirting with 90 degrees once again Tuesday and Wednesday, and you’ll notice the humidity returning too. Storm chances are possible mid-week.
