Today's heat requires caution for those who plan to spend plenty of time outdoors. Stay hydrated and take breaks indoors.

HEAT WAVE BEGINS: A strong ridge of warmth takes hold from mid to late week. Under plenty of sunshine, expect a hazy, hot, and humid Wednesday. It starts hazy, stuffy, and warm, and it’s a sign of things to come for the rest of the day. Temperatures are in the upper 80s to lower 90s. Factor in the humidity, and heat indices make it feel like the middle 90s. The muggy 90 degrees days continue through the rest of the work week. A few pop up afternoon thunderstorms are possible UV IndexThursday, but that does not prevent more 90s for much of the area. Heat indices are in the middle to upper 90s. Our next cold front approaches Friday, and this brings a more widespread chance for showers and thunderstorms during the mid to late afternoon hours. Highs remain in the 90s. In fact, expect lower to middle 90s. It feels like nearly 100 degrees when the humidity is included!

WEEKEND NOT AS HOT: A secondary cold front swings through Saturday, and this keeps the afternoon shower and thunderstorm chances in place on Saturday. Afternoon temperatures are still quite warm, with readings hovering in the upper 80s to near 90 degrees. Sunday the humidity levels finally come down a bit, and temperatures are seasonably warm. Expect readings in the lower to middle 80s.

NEXT WEEK: A strong ridge of high pressure returns to the region, and this brings back the warmth through early next week. Slight warming takes place Monday under plenty of sunshine. Readings are in the middle to upper 80s. Temperatures are expected to approach 90 degrees again Tuesday under plenty of sunshine.

Have a great Wednesday!
