HARRISBURG, Pa.– The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s (PennDOT) Rapid Bridge Replacement Project gets underway  in Franklin County with the reconstruction the Route 274 bridge over Tuscarora Creek in Fannett Township. Route 274 is also known locally as Big Spring Road.

Construction is scheduled to begin on Monday, July 18, with closure of the bridge and traffic detoured to Route 274, Route 850, Route 75 and Route 17.  The work is expected to be complete by September, and will be performed by Walsh Construction II. The crossing was built in 1931 and averages 300 vehicles a day.

The bridge replacements are part of the Rapid Bridge Replacement Project, a Public-Private Partnership (P3) between PennDOT and Plenary Walsh Keystone Partners (PWKP) under which PWKP will finance, design, replace and maintain the bridges for 25 years. The P3 approach will allow PennDOT to replace the bridges more quickly while achieving significant savings and minimizing impact on motorists.
