HARRISBURG, Pa. – The suspect in the July 1st shooting in the area of Green and Woodbine Streets in Harrisburg is now in custody.
Malik A. Jackson, 19, was arraigned this morning before District Justice Barbara Pianka. Charges included Criminal Attempt – Homicide, Aggravated Assault, Robbery, Possession of Firearm Prohibited, Firearms Not to be Carried Without License, and Recklessly Endangering Another Person. During the arraignment additional charges of Criminal Mischief, Flight to Avoid Apprehension, Possession with Intent to Deliver and Criminal Trespass were filed.
Following arraignment Jackson was sent to Dauphin County Prison in lieu of bail exceeding $1 million. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for later this month.
The charges from the July 1st incident resulted from what was described as a drug deal gone bad. Investigators determined that three individuals, two females and a male, had come to Harrisburg to buy drugs from Jackson. One female was from Highspire, the other from Hummelstown. The male is unknown.
There was a disagreement between the male and Jackson over the quantity of drugs to be sold. Jackson and the male then engaged in a physical altercation in the street at which time Jackson pulled out a handgun and fired a single round into the air. The two females then became frightened and attempted to leave the area on foot.
Jackson chased after the two females because he felt that one of the two had stolen the drugs from him. Jackson located one of the females in the 2100 Block of Green Street and physically assaulted her by pushing her to the ground and striking her about the head and face. He then forced her to disrobe, in order to search her person for his drugs. Jackson forced the female to remove her dress exposing herself to prove that she did not steal the drugs.
Jackson then searched for the other female who was hiding in the 200 Block of Woodbine Street. Jackson approached the other female and began firing at her multiple times with his handgun. Jackson then began to physically assault her as he thought she had taken his drugs. He then took her purse from her and searched through her purse without her consent.
