MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – Harrisburg International Airport (HIA) and Uber jointly announce a new agreement for Uber’s ridesharing platform at the airport.
“Today we announce an official partnership with Uber to offer on-call ride-hailing service at Harrisburg International Airport, “said Timothy J. Edwards, executive director. “This agreement provides our customers more choices to and from the airport while establishing an operating framework that meets the needs of Uber and our ground transportation providers who have served airport customers for years.”
“Uber can now help remove one of the hassles of travel: figuring out how to get to and from the airport,” said Jennifer Krusius, Uber’s General Manager for Pennsylvania Expansion. “Our agreement with HIA means travelers can count on Uber for safe, affordable transportation options around the Harrisburg region.”
The deal, effectively immediately will improve the flow of traffic on airport property, reinforce existing public safety standards around insurance and driver screenings, and ensure that travelers to and from the region have easy access to the reliable option that Uber provides.
Under the terms of the agreement, Uber will:
- Maintain $1 Million of commercial auto insurance for all drivers conducting trips on the platform
- Conduct multi-jurisdictional background checks on all prospective drivers through a nationally-accredited third-party provider — examining county, state and federal records, as well as terror watch lists and the national sex offender database
- Enforce a zero-tolerance policy on unauthorized pickups and the use of intoxicating substances
And HIA will:
- Require rideshare drivers to only perform pickups in specified areas
- Designate space in the parking garage from which Uber driver-partners will receive requests
- Collect a $2.90 fee for every airport pickup that takes place
