LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. –  Lucas Newman threatened to shoot Julius Dale III on May 27 at a Sadsbury Township home, and, moments later, he did just that.

That’s according to a  state police trooper who testified during a preliminary hearing in Intercourse today. Police allege the 31-year-old Newman shot Dale, 26, in the chest with a shotgun in a doorway of a home in the 300 block of Creek Road, near Christiana.

Assistant District Attorney Travis S. Anderson called Troopers Michael Snyder and Nathan Aukamp to testify about the shooting scene and what witnesses told police.

Trooper Snyder testified to what a man at the home that day told investigators. The man said he was walking toward the Creek Road home and heard Newnam and Dale arguing in the basement. The man then saw Newnam emerge from the home holding a black shotgun. Dale then came into the doorway, standing close to Newnam, the witness reported.

Newnam threatened to shoot while holding the shotgun. He then shot Dale in the chest and Dale fell, the witness reported. Trooper Aukamp testified that he saw Dale’s body, deceased with an apparent gunshot wound to his chest, under a tarp outside the home.

At the conclusion of the hour-long hearing, District Judge Raymond Sheller ruled that enough evidence was presented to support the charge being tried in Lancaster County Court.

Newnam, who lived at the Creek Road house, is at Lancaster County Prison without bail.
