DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. – A Dauphin County jury returns with a guilty verdict in the trial of Jonathan Robert Tyrrell, 53, of Harrisburg.  Tyrrell was on trial for the brutal rape of an 8 year old child.  The jury needed only 40 minutes to reach a verdict in the three day trial.

The jury found Tyrrell guilty of all charges which included Serious Bodily Injury of a Child, Rape of a Child, Indecent Assault, Corruption of Minors and Unlawful Contact with a Minor.

The child was raped in Tyrrell’s Harrisburg home in the 1200 block of Chestnut in 2014.

Chief Deputy District Attorney Jennifer Gettle says Tyrrell faces a mandatory sentence of 25 years in prison due to a prior 1982 rape conviction in New York state.

Formally sentencing by Judge Deborah Curcillo is scheduled for October. Tyrrell was returned to Dauphin County Prison where he remains held on half a million dollars bail.
