Philadelphia, PA (July 8, 2016) – The Pennsylvania SPCA executed a search warrant yesterday at a residence in the Bridesburg section of Philadelphia, removing 27 cats and two dogs.
The PSPCA’s Humane Law Enforcement Officers, acting on a tip of deceased cats in a trash can reported to the PSPCA’s cruelty hotline, executed a search warrant at a residence on the 2400 block of Bridge Street. The PSPCA found 27 living cats and two dogs in filthy, flea-infested conditions. Several cats and one dog suffering from severe medical conditions where immediately transported back the PSPCA’s Erie Avenue headquarters to receive care from the Shelter Hospital staff. One young cat was dead upon arrival, but resuscitated by the PSPCA veterinary staff and remains in critical condition.
The investigation is ongoing, and charges are pending.
The Pennsylvania SPCA recently created The George Bengal Fund to honor the memory and continue the work of the organization’s former Director of Humane Law Enforcement who passed away after a battle with cancer.
