SWATARA TWP., Pa.-- Christmas came early this year for some animals at the Humane Society of Harrisburg Area in Dauphin County. The "Christmas in July" Adopt-A-Thon event was held Saturday at the shelter on Grayson Road in Swatara Township.

Discounts were offered to people looking to adopt a new pet. It cost only $10.00 to adopt a cat and $20.00 to adopt a dog. Those fees include the cost of spaying and neutering, micro-chipping and vaccinations.

"We actually had a better turnout than we expected for today, with this heat and everything and the rain of course this morning, but there were people parked outside here and camped out sort of a couple of hours before we opened," said Nancy Valdez, Coordinator of Volunteers.
