A majority of Pennsylvania lawmakers voted in favor of a revenue package Wednesday, July 13, which included a new tax on digital downloads. Digital downloads range from taxing apps like Pokemon Go, books, games, photos, satellite radio, and videos. Taxes applied to digital downloads is the state’s  6% sales tax.

The state budget become law without Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf’s signature on Thursday, June 30. This was Wolf’s second budget in his first administration.

Lawmakers spent nearly two weeks cobbling together a plan to pay for a $1.3 billion gap. The digital download tax is now part of the state’s final 2016-17 budget.
