ST. THOMAS TOWNSHIP, Pa.–Pennsylvania State Police arrested a Chambersburg man after they said he led troopers on a high speed chase in Franklin County with two children in the vehicle.
The incident happened around 1:27 a.m. Saturday along the 8600 block of Lincoln Way West in St. Thomas Township.
Troopers were responding to a burglary alarm when they spotted a vehicle driven by 43-year-old Phillip Ray Crone driving south on Route 75 at a high rate of speed. Authorities attempted to stop Crone’s vehicle–but he refused to pull over. A high-speed chase ensued, topping out at 130 miles per hour, according police reports.
The chase ended at a dead end on Sherry Road where Crone was taken into custody.
Troopers found two children, ages 16 and 12, in his vehicle. Crone had taken three juveniles from a home on the 100 block of N Fourth Street of Chambersburg, reportedly making paranoid and strange comments. Police say the children were known to Crone. There was also a dog in the car. Crone left one juvenile out of the car at a Sheetz prior to the chase. No one was hurt.
Police later discovered that Crone committed the burglary at a business which they were initially investigating.
Crone is charged with burglary, three counts of endangering the welfare of a child, fleeing and attempting to elude police and other related charges. He was taken to Franklin County Prison in lieu of $100,000 bail.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 9.
