COLUMBIA, Pa. - On the steps of the Zion AME Church, in Columbia, a diverse group of people gathered to discuss coming together to create better relationships between the police and the people.
The event was put together by the Lancaster County NAACP in the wake of police officers allegedly being targeted during a shooting Friday. Two teens, Trenton Nace and Marquell Rentas, face charges for their alleged involvement in the shooting.
"When the community is disrupted by events like these it is important that we come together and stand together, work together to progress, to be in a better place than we are in right now," said Blanding Watson, president of Lancaster County NAACP.
A community forum is being held at the church at 6:00pm Thursday, August 4, to further discuss what can be done to improve the relationship between police and the community. All are welcome to attend. Organizers say it is just the beginning and the conversation needs to continue.
