WEST MANHEIM TOWNSHIP, YORK COUNTY, Pa.-- Three thousand American flags will be displayed for over the 9/11 weekend at West Manheim Elementary, for what is being called a healing field. About 75 people worked together to assemble the flags.

"It's a memorial for the people who died on 9/11," Billy Wineholt, chairman of the healing field said.

The field was done in 2011 to commemorate the 10th anniversary. The Hanover Exchange Club continued to put out about smaller amounts of flags. They said they wanted to make this year a special commemoration.

"It's that old adage, if you haven't learned your history, you are bound to repeat it again," volunteer Edwin Tharp said.

Event those too young too remember the tragic day understand what this field will mean.

"Just helping out the community and being to drive past these flags and know that I helped to make a lot them will be pretty cool," volunteer Kevin Mowrey said.

For the members of the Exchange Club, this field is one of the best things they will do, according to Wineholt.

"We've had people in the club for 30-40 years, and by far they say this is the best thing they've ever done," Wineholt said.

The flags will be on display from September 9th-17th.
