Lancaster City Police detained Jafohn Ahmere Carl, 22, who alleged shot a gun outside the Altana Restaurant and nightclub at 26 E. King Street.

After interviewing numerous witnesses, police said, Altana staff security told police he observed two couples arguing in the area of N. Christian St. at E. King St., across from the club. As one couple walked away, Carl followed them, which is when staff security said he heard a gun shot fired.

The couple he had been following began to run toward the restaurant, witnesses said. Carl was said to be chasing them, police report. Staff security explained to police that he stepped in between the couple and Carl in order to stop Carl from chasing them.

Carl then reached into his waistband, which is when staff security wrestled him to the ground. Carl continued to reach into his waistband, so the security staff member reached into Carl’s waistband and removed a grey semi-automatic handgun.

Those who ate dinner at the restaurant and were at the night club gathered outside, and witnessed the entire altercation, police said.

Upon confiscation of the gun, police said, they discovered Carl did not have a current and valid firearms permit, and that he was currently on probation. Police said they placed Carl under arrest and transported him to Lancaster General Hospital for medical treatment, due to facial injuries he sustained during the struggle with the security staff member.

Lancaster City Police Department reported they found two plastic baggies containing Xanax pills, and a large amount of cash in Carl’s pockets. Carl did not possess a valid prescription for the medication.

The 22-year old, of the 100 block of  N. Broad St., was treated and released, then transported to the police station for processing.

He was charged with firearms not be carried without a license, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, and recklessly endangering another person before Magisterial District Justice Winters, and held for arraignment. Bail information was not immediately available.
