MIDDLESEX TOWNSHIP, Pa.–A Mechanicsburg man is back behind bars after escaping from police during his arraignment Tuesday in Cumberland County.

Ryan S. Hou, 23, escaped from a holding cell at Magisterial District Judge Paul Fegley’s office where he was awaiting to be arraigned on burglary and theft charges, according to the criminal complaint.

Hou was handcuffed when he ran out a rear door around 11:30 a.m. –setting off a security alarm, court documents state.

Police searched the area and found him near Faith Circle, nearly three hours later.

Hou tried to flee from police again, but was taken into custody while still wearing his original handcuffs, according to court records. He was taken to Cumberland County Prison without bail.

Police said Hou did not want to return to prison because he had outstanding bench warrants for criminal trespass from another county. He’s charged with flight to avoid apprehension and escape.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 22.

Hou was initially begin arraigned on burglary and trespass charges stemming from a break-in that happened earlier this month in Carlisle.

According to court documents, the burglary happened at a home along the first block of Oak Ridge Road. The homeowner arrived home to find a window on a rear door smashed out and numerous items were missing.

The victim reviewed his home security camera and recognized Hou walking around in his home, court documents state.
