Drones can not only be purchased online, but also in brick-and-mortar stores. Anyone from farmers to small business owners, and sports organizations to personal owners, are cashing in on using them. And, the gravity of the unmanned aircraft systems has yet to be determined.
New federal regulations will soon be implemented. Among the areas that feds are considering mindful oversight include, new reporting requirements, new pilot certification, greater privacy laws, drone cybersecurity rules, and line of sight limitations and considerations.
While some drones are used for fun and entertainment, others are not being used the same way. The Federal Aviation Administration stepped in a few years ago to regulate small drones, depending on whether they are flown for recreation or for commercial purposes. The fine line between the two can change an assessed fine outcome.
