CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. – Three schools in the East Pennsboro School District will be closed on Friday through Monday of next week, due to an ongoing problem with mold.
In a recorded message released late Thursday evening, School Superintendent Jay Burkhart announced that the East Pennsboro Area Middle School, East Pennsboro Elementary and West Creek Hills Elementary School will be closed. Dr. Burkhart said that the decision to close the schools came after a review of the air quality reports from Cumberland Analytical Laboratories. The reports revealed that the middle school and West Creek Hills Elementary had an elevated level of Trichoderma Spore, a mold typically found in soil.
During the closure areas contaminated by mold will be cleaned and retested on Sunday. The test samples will be delivered to the lab on Monday with expected results by late Monday.
