LANCASTER, Pa. – A $1 million donation was given to the VisionCorps Foundation by philanthropist Ann B. Barshinger.  Based in Lancaster, VisionCorps serves 2,000 individuals who are blind or vision impaired in Lancaster, Lebanon, and Chester counties.

Due to her donation and her support of local non-for-profits, Barshinger was honored by VisionCorps leadership and staff on Tuesday. VisionCorps downtown building was named in Barshinger’s honor.

“This building serves as yet another reminder of the impact that Ann Barshinger has made on our community. Ann is a treasured friend, with a big heart, a strong mind, and a generous spirit. We are blessed to know her,” reflected Lancaster City Mayor, Rick Gray.

According to a news release, for 90 years, VisionCorps has served individuals who are blind or vision impaired in Lancaster, Lebanon, and Chester Counties, through rehabilitation and employment opportunities. Rehabilitation and Youth Services provide the tools and training to empower individuals who are blind or vision impaired to attain independence. In total, VisionCorps employs more than 100 individuals, and the majority of these employees are blind or vision impaired.

“I think what VisionCorps is doing is wonderful, and more people need to know about it,” said Barshinger. “I was fascinated the first time I toured the facility!”
