EAST PENNSBORO TWP., Pa., -- All students in East Pennsboro area school district returned to school on Wednesday after being out of class for several days due to mold. The elementary school students went back Tuesday and on Wednesday the middle and high school students returned to class.

The middle school and high school students will operate on a modified split schedule at the middle school while air quality issues continue at the high school.

According to school officials, high school students will attend classes for the first 4 hours of the day from 7:30-11:30 am followed by middle school students from noon-4:15 pm.

In a meeting held earlier this week, District Superintendent Jay Burkhart said the air quality tests for the middle school came back with no unusual levels of mold in the building, however, the high school could be closed for at least 3 weeks while they re-insulate the pipes.

"It was our administrative team trying to get our students back into the school as soon as possible and we thought that this was the most effective way," explained Burkhart. "In our conversation with the Department of Education, they were supportive of this decision."
