LANCASTER, Pa.– An Ephrata woman was convicted Tuesday of welfare fraud after collecting assistance payments while working in 2011 and 2012.
Kay Bryan, 60, is now charged with a misdemeanor count of fraud in obtaining assistance, and is required to back the funds while serving a year of unsupervised probation.
Assistant District Attorney Erik Neiman presented evidence that Bryan collected $1,775 in welfare payments for about 8 months while working at an area K-Mart location. Neiman argued that she knew she was required to report her work income, but didn’t.
At sentencing, Bryan told the judge she does everything she can to save state taxpayers’ money, including declining costly medical procedures.
