HARRISBURG, Pa. – Members of the United States Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force arrest a Megan’s Law violator in Glen Rock, York County today.
On December 5, 2008, 42 year old John William Miller was convicted of Sexual Assault and required to register as a Sexually Violent Predator for the rest of his life. Last month, on August 15, registered his home address in the 300 block of West Market Street, York. Later, officers from the York City Police Department learned that he didn’t live at the address and obtained a warrant charging him with Megan’s Law violations.
At about 1:30 p.m. this afternoon U.S. Marshals checked a home in the first block of Hanover Street, Glen Rock and arrested Miller without incident. He was turned over to the York County Sheriff’s Office Central Booking Unit for arraignment.
United States Marshal Pane stated, “The U.S. Marshals Service is dedicated to its sex offender apprehension mission and extends the reach of state and local police agencies so they can better prosecute Megan’s Law violators.”
The Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act of 2006 designated the USMS as the federal agency responsible for helping local and state authorities locate and arrest convicted sex offenders who fail to comply with their registration requirements.
The USMS Fugitive Task Force in the Middle District of Pennsylvania is comprised of 21 state, county and local police agencies; including the York City Police Department and the York County Sheriff’s Office which work alongside the USMS every day.
