WEST MAHANOY TOWNSHIP — A man accused of taking a woman into the woods and holding her and her two children captive has been caught.

Christopher Benjamin, 34, was taken into custody on Wednesday in West Mahanoy Township, according to State police.

Investigators told WNEP that Benjamin beat the 31-year-old woman in the woods and held her along with her 4-year-old and 1-year-old children against her will for two days last month.

Troopers said Benjamin is the father of the younger child.  At some point during the ordeal, he allegedly threatened to kill the woman if she left the area. He then left with the 1-year-old telling the mother he wanted her to feel the pain of missing a child.

Police say the woman was able to escape late at night, making a break for a main road where she sought help.

Benjamin faces several charges including aggravated assault, unlawful restraint, and endangering the welfare of another person.
