Harrisburg men use mace on 15-year-old to steal cell phone

HARRISBURG, Pa – David Hayward Jr, 18 of Derry Street, Harrisburg and, Troy Brooks, 18 of Filmore Street, Harrisburg, were taken into custody and charged with Robbery and related offenses on Monday afternoon.

About 1:30 PM on Monday, police responded a reported robbery in the 2800 block of Penbrook Ave.  The 15-year-old victim said he arranged to meet the two men through offerup.com to complete the purchase of a cell phone.  During the interaction one of the suspects attempted to spray the victim with a mace or pepper spray like substance and,  then both fled on foot with the victim’s cell phone.

Police located both men a few minutes later and about 5 blocks from the scene, where they were taken into custody.  A mace canister was located in possession of one of the suspects.

At their preliminary arraignments both suspects were committed to Dauphin County Prison on bail.
