Fort Indiantown Gap, Lebanon County, Pa. -- It was a busy Saturday at Fort Indiantown Gap to honor and remember U.S. service members who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
It was all part of the 5th Annual "March for the Fallen." Several race categories included a 28-mile "Path to Honor" route, where people wore a backpack weighing a minimum of 35-pounds. There was also an 18-mile "Hawk Watch Challenge," a 5k and a 1k for kids. Event organizers say this is one way to honor service members.
"It's just a great event, a very emotional event, because we really care about those people that we lost," Col. Robert Hepner Jr. said. "I mean they gave the ultimate sacrifice so that we can have the freedoms that we share today, and we can't forget about that. We've got to make sure we're honoring them, and I think that this is a very appropriate way to honor them."
Those taking part in the races were treated to a free pasta dinner at Fort Indiantown Gap. The event draws a crowd from across the country who want to honor fallen service members.
