Longwood University Prepares For Vice-Presidential Debate

Presidential running mates take the stage tonight at Longwood University in Farmville, Va. It is the only scheduled vice presidential debate prior to election night.

U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) and Gov. Mike Pence (R-IN), who have positive-leaning favorability ratings, CNN reported, have to sell themselves to a torn American electorate. While both men were selected by their respective nominee Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republican Donald Trump this summer, Americans said in a recent scientific poll that they do not know much about either of them.

Those who were polled, CNN explains, said their selection of vice presidential picks aligns with their executive leadership choice, too. The poll revealed that 68% of Trump supporters think Pence will carry the day, and 64% of Clinton backers said Kaine will.

Tonight’s debate, which airs live at 9 p.m. Eastern time, is more of an intimidate introduction of both candidates. It’s an opportunity for Kaine and Pence to set themselves apart from each other, articulate their experiences, emphasize their ability to lead, and define their role as vice president.
