2 hurt in fiery multi-vehicle crash along I-81 in Cumberland County

SILVER SPRING TOWNSHIP, Pa.--Two people were hurt after a multi-vehicle crash along Interstate 81 in Cumberland County on Wednesday morning.

An SUV carrying two people was heading south on I-81 in Silver Spring Township when the vehicle crossed the median into the northbound lane and hit a tractor-trailer around 11 a.m., according to Pennsylvania State Police reports.

The tractor-trailer burst into flames and hit a second tractor-trailer, state police said.

The driver of the SUV was flown to Penn State Hershey Medical Center.The passenger was taken to Penn State Hospital via an ambulance.

Both drivers of the tractor-trailers were not injured.

That portion of Interstate 81 was shut down for about 3 hours. All lanes were back open around 2:10 p.m.
