MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - At Millersville University over 100 students march and stand in solidarity with the faculty members that are strike.

"I think coming to Millersville was one of the best choices I’ve ever made. I’ve made a research career here where I plan to go get my Doctorate and if striking is what helps me do that then I will support my faculty," said junior, Jennifer Houtz.

It is the first time APSCUF (Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Faculties) has actually gone on strike since the union formed more than 30 years ago.

On the Millersville University website it states, in part,"The State System and the faculty union concluded five days of negotiations Tuesday without reaching agreement on a new contract.  As of 5 a.m., Oct. 19, the Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Faculties has called for an immediate work stoppage at all 14 universities in Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education, including Millersville University.

At Millersville, our students are our top concern.  We are hopeful that an agreement can be reached between APSCUF, the union representing our faculty, and the PA State System of Higher Education to minimize the impact to our students. We want to remind you that participation in the strike is an individual faculty member’s decision, so students should report to scheduled classes unless the university indicates otherwise."

Wednesday some students did go to class.

”I paid this much money to go to college so I thought maybe someone would be there," said freshman, Gabrielle Hollingsworth.

"The hallways were completely empty. The classrooms were dark so I just left. I was just in shock," said freshman,  Aubrie Ray.

Ray is upset that she is not being taught.

"I just feel like it’s not fair for the students cause we paid so much for each semester and I don’t want to see like the semester get canceled because that would be very unfair," she said.

"The overwhelming feeling is settle for the students. Negotiate a contract so we can get back to getting our education," said Justin Pierre, Student Senate President.
