UPPER MERION TOWNSHIP, MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Pa. — Numerous injuries were reported after three school buses, carrying students and chaperones from Manheim Township School District in Lancaster County, crashed on Saturday.

Pennsylvania State Police say there were 106 people aboard the three buses. The buses were traveling east on I-76, heading to Springfield High School in Delaware County. The buses were traveling in a line, when the first two came to a stop in the right lane for traffic congestion. Officials say the third bus was unable to stop in time and hit the rear bumper of the bus in front. The impact caused that bus to then hit another bus traveling in front, that was leading the way.   Two of the buses were disabled and had to be towed from the scene, authorities say. The third bus sustained minor damage.

All passengers were taken to safety off of the highway by another bus and SEPTA.

Delaware County EMS arrived at Springfield High School to treat the students and chaperones. Officials say 10 students and one chaperone were transported to Delaware County Memorial and Springfield Hospital. Some were treated for minor injuries.
