HARRISBURG, Pa. — A 16 year-old girl was shot while sitting in a car in Harrisburg Friday night. It happened around 9:30pm on the 500 block of Schuylkill Street. Police were called to the area for a report of shots being fired. While they were there, they received word the victim had arrived at Harrisburg Hospital.

The teenage victim was suffering from a gunshot wound to her back. She told police it happened while she was sitting in a vehicle. The victim and other occupants were dropped off at the hospital and the vehicle that took them did not remain. Police say vehicle is a small black vehicle with possible bullet holes in the back.

Through the investigation it was determined that the victim and three other juveniles in the vehicle left a football game and were returning home. Someone from within the vehicle noticed that a white vehicle was following them. For no apparent reason someone from within this white vehicle fired at the black car. One of the bullets went through the rear of the vehicle and struck the victim in the back.

The victim was treated and police say she barely escaped paralysis. She will have extensive medical treatments but is expected to recover.
