Ask Evan: What’s the status of the I-83 construction project at the Mt. Rose avenue exit?

Vicki in York Township asks, "what's the status of the Interstate 83 construction project at the mt. Rose Avenue exit? It seems like it's taking a long time."

I got in contact with folks from PennDOT who tell me the ongoing construction is part of a $58.3 million project that includes the reconstruction and widening of a 1.3 mile section of I-83 and the reconfiguration of the exit 18 interchange ramps for mount rose avenue.
It's a large project that includes 15 structures being built -- 7 bridges, 2 sound barriers, 2 sign structures and 4 culvert extensions.

Camp Betty Washington Road, Haines Road, and Green Hill Road will also be reconstructed and widened to facilitate traffic flow around the interchange.

As for completion of the entire project, it's scheduled to wrap up in the summer of 2018, so expect to see construction work there for about two more years.

More than 60,000 vehicles per day travel on this section of I-83. Motorists can check conditions on more than 40,000 roadway miles by visiting www.511pa.com. It's free and available 24 hours a day.
