HARRISBURG, Pa. -- The Pennsylvania State Department of Health says it is on track when it comes to the timeline laid out, for the Commonwealth's medical marijuana program.
The program became effective on May 17, 2016 but is expected to take until at least October of 2017 to be fully implemented. So far, the state has approved 103 applicants for "safe harbor." That means caregivers carry certified letters granting them legal clearance to administer medical marijuana to loved ones.
"One of our most important accomplishments to date, is the development of temporary regulations for growers and processors," Dr. Karen Murphy, Pennsylvania's Secretary of Health said. "We received nearly 1,000 comments from members of the community, the industry, and our legislative partners. I'm pleased to announce that those regulations are slated to be published in the Pennsylvania bulletin on October 29th."
Those temporary regulations will also be published on the Department of Health's website. A public feedback period is open through November 4th, 2016.
