EAST LAMPETER TOWNSHIP, LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa.- Around this time of year, it's usually the boys of fall hitting the gridiron. At Donegal High School, one girl is breaking through and making history.

Junior Emma Hudson is the kicker for the team and is making the position her own.

"I always knew I could kick a ball very far," she said. "I've always been told that."

She is the first girl to play on the team in Lancaster County.

"It's really nerve racking to me," Hudson said.

Hudson also plays on the high school soccer team. She went to the athletic director after a football game when the Indians missed four extra points and lost by two.

"I told Mr. Kennedy that I wanted to try it," she said.

"It's a real easy decision, she is the best we have in the school at what she does," Donegal Head Football Coach Jeff Polites said.

Hudson is the first girl to score points for the football team.

"Everyone I know has been really supportive," Hudson said. "Which is really nice, so it's been a good experience."

Her first kick was a little rough.

"I was really nervous and I missed it," she said. "After that I got more comfortable."

Since Hudson is a junior, she plans to be part of the team for another year.

"If they need me," Hudson said.

"Oh my gosh yes, she is very good," Polites said. "She is only going to get better with more experience."

As for college, Hudson said soccer comes first, but football could be an option.
