YORK Pa. – York City Police and the Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshals has ruled two of three fires in the city over the weekend as suspicious and a case of arson.
The first fire which happened at 9:45 p.m. at 238 South Duke Street was ruled arson.
A smaller fire less than hour later at 10:15 p.m. at 410 South George Street was ruled accidental. The cause was an electrical problem. One resident was rescued by firefighters and two others were injured.
Firefighters were still at that fire when they received a call at 10:31 p.m. for the fire in the 100 block of East Maple Street Saturday night was ruled “suspicious”. Police say all evidence points to trespassers using drugs at 156 E. Maple, which was abandoned property. Investigators believe that there was no intent to set the fire. A total of 22 people were displaced by the fire. Three firefighters were injured battling the fire. Damages are estimated at $275,000.
