HARRISBURG, Pa. — The 2016 Harrisburg Holiday Parade is on the calendar for Saturday, November 19th.  This year’s theme is “Making the Season Bright.”

The parade will feature marching bands, musical acts, vintage and classic cars, as well as classic characters from Cinderella, Star Wars, and the Nutcracker.

“There are also going to be balloons,” said Harrisburg Mayor Eric Papenfuse.  “I’ve been assured by our quality crack staff that everyone wants a hippopotamus for Christmas.  As a result, we will have a giant hippopotamus in our parade.”

The Mayor says a large crowd is anticipated along the parade route.  To help with parking, the Pennsylvania State Employees Credit Union is sponsoring free parking at the Market Street garage from 9:00am to 8:00pm.

The parade kicks off at noon on the 19th, in Downtown Harrisburg.  Afterwards, attendees are invited to enjoy a hot chocolate with Santa.  That starts at 3:00pm at Strawberry Square, followed by an awards ceremony, where the top step and drill teams will receive trophies.  The top high school marching bands will receive cash awards.

Applications for parade entries are due by November 4.  Click here for entry details.
