HARRISBURG,PA. - Election Day is only a week away. Campaign signs are everywhere. PennDOT officials say it is illegal to post signs in their right of ways. Recently, PennDOT employees removed hundreds of signs from the side of major highways. They say they can be a distraction to drivers.

"We want drivers to be aware of changing conditions that maybe occurring,  pay attention to someone's brake lights and not to how many campaigns signs are on the interstate," said Mike Crochunis from Penndot.

The signs are not destroyed. They are gathered and taken to PennDOT locations where candidates can pick them up. Spokespeople with both the Republican Party of Pennsylvania and the Pennsylvania Democratic Party say they are aware of the rules. They advise people to put the signs in their yards.

PennDOT explains the rules here.
